Keeping the main thing, the MAIN THING, gives you purpose

by Jewel Diamond Taylor

Whenever I share with my audiences across the nation my life’s theme, “The main thing… is to keep the Main thing… the MAIN THING!” I always receive a humorous response. On the surface it sounds cliche. But the reality of this affirmation is that this kind of attitude produces results.

So many times, we experience frustration, fatigue and failure because our “plate is too full.” We must learn to prioritize. Choose the project, goal or activity that is most important to you right now. Once you choose, make a commitment to that decision. The ability to let go of low priority goals, and the courage to commit to a decision, are the attributes of a winner.

This powerful attribute is what athletes experience on the football field, baseball field or basketball court. The players train themselves to tune out personal problems, household chores, the news, physical pain, poor weather or any distracting elements.

Life is likened to a game. Once you decide to stop being a spectator and become a participator… you have to develop a game plan, focus on your goal, listen to your coach, tune out the opposing spectators and be willing to handle resistance and tackles.

Keeping the main thing, the MAIN Thing, gives you purpose. However, your purpose won’t last long without the passion. If you really love and enjoy not only the goal (destiny), but also the journey, you won’t give up so easily when the game gets tough. I experienced immeasurable success once I developed this attitude of action, concentration and commitment. It is my sincere wish for you that you also accomplish your dreams and goals.
