ARE YOU IN THE DIAMOND LANE?

by Jewel Diamond Taylor

I live in Southern California where there are lots of people, cars and freeways. The “diamond lane” is the designated commuter lane.

It is an incentive for two or more commuters to help shorten their driving time and reduce traffic jams and pollution. Whenever I’m in the “diamond lane,” I arrive at my destination faster and I have someone sharing my journey with me, desiring the same destination. We have the opportunity to talk and share, and my journey seems less of a hassle.

In life’s journey, traveling the “diamond lane” sometimes will help you arrive at your goal faster. Who do you spend most of your time with? Who supports you in accomplishing your goals?

Are you struggling alone, stuck in the “traffic jam of life” and getting nowhere fast? Are you in the slow lane of life or are you in the fast lane, headed for an accident?

Yes, there are times you need to travel alone but there’s a difference between being alone and being lonely. There are times when having other people in your “car of life” will slow you down.

They may be back-seat drivers and tell you how to live your life. Sometimes people with no goals or maps of their own will talk you into getting off your highway to go their way.

When you find like-minded people moving and growing in your same direction… get in the “diamond lane.” Share, network, spend time together, support one another and you’ll reach your destination much quicker.

You will pass up the other traffic of people who want to go it alone, stuck on ego, not willing to share, afraid to connect, moving too slow or simply lost with no direction.

Life is a journey. Your key to get started is your faith. Your goals are your map. Your vehicle is your body. Your fuel is your nutrition. You are in the driver’s seat controlling your life, or you are a passenger letting someone else make your decisions.

All of these factors, including your co-journers, determine the quality of your journey. A successful trip requires regular tune-ups, so take care of yourself. Enjoy the scenery of life. Sometimes there are detours or setbacks. Just remember to get back on your highway again. Read and adhere to warning signs. Go with the flow of traffic. Don’t stress out when temporary traffic jams occur. Travel in the “diamond lane” whenever possible.

I’ve created over 150 fake album covers for bands that don’t exist, as well as fake concert posters and T-shirts. I’ve also enlisted a music company called Jingle Punks to create original music and we’re releasing our first record on vinyl called “Rohit Records Greatest Hits Volume 1.” I’ve also directed a music video for one of the songs called “Coastal Elites.” So to answer your question, that’s my new favorite piece of writing/art/music.

Moollz orders a decaf peppermint tea. She doesn’t vibe with caffeine, despite managing the rigors of being a student at Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University. “I’m studying music business, music theory, composition, production, and engineering,” she rattles off as if she’s studying basic arithmetic. She hopes to delve further into songwriting, film scoring, and multi media branding as well as honing her craft as a songwriter and composer.
