Day 21: Exclusive Interview with “Tribes” bestselling author Seth Godin about L.A. for TribeLA Magazine’s online launch – Part one

Publisher’s note: Seth Godin inspired the project TribeLA Magazine. His books have played an important role in my career as a radio executive and as an entrepreneur. Day 21 of TribeLA Magazine’s online launch brings you this exclusive interview with the godfather of modern day creative-thought-leadership.

When Seth wrote Tribes (We Need You to Lead Us) in 2008, he was at the tip of the iceberg with something very grand. Since that introduction, the market has changed and Tribes have sprung up all over the world that some call weird… but what is weird to some is normal for others, depending on where you live. We call it Cultures and Los Angeles has many diverse Cultures. How do we connect with each other… Tribe to Tribe… culture to culture? Let’s start with telling our stories through Art.

Day 10: The TribeLA Magazine Roundtable for artists kicks off in March

The Roundtable is our way of bridging our communities by coming together informally to discuss common issues that face all of us as Angelenos. Together, the voices of the Arts and Cultures community will bring to light the conversations that are needed to explore, understand, and appreciate the diversity that make up the huge tribe of people in Los Angeles.

Day 3: Research shows that *Nature Art helps the healing process and artist Erin Hanson enhances this with beauty and design

“I just want people to be happy when they see my paintings” says artist Erin Hanson. In her studio, golden frames surround large panels of dizzying flower fields, jagged red cliffs, rivers trickling over rocky beds, and dense mountain forests. Erin’s art draws inspiration from the great outdoors. Whether she is visiting a new city for a show or touring a national park, she is constantly in search of scenes to paint.

Many of her works are inspired by her experiences rock-climbing and backpacking—she still takes week-long trips once or twice a year for the sheer enjoyment as well as to find more material for her paintings.
Erin has developed a personal style, called “open impressionism” making oil paint her primary medium because she likes the texture and its resemblance to the great Vincent van Gogh.
