ART & ARTISTS

BRADFORD J. SALAMON

Bradford an American portrait painter that often paints his fellow artists, as well as portrayals of ordinary objects of the past that he imbues with an iconic art status beyond their cultural history.  Bradford is very passionate about the California art scene, curating art shows and documenting fellow artists on film.

SHEPARD FAIREY

Shepard Fairey, is an American muralist and graphic artist who first gained attention for creating a sticker with a portrait of the towering professional wrestler André the Giant and the word Obey. Fairey is perhaps best known for his iconic2008 “Hope” poster depicting then U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. His work combined street-art activism with entrepreneurial spirit.

JENNIFFER POCHINSKI

Painting for Jennifer is a mysterious process. She loves the paint itself. The application of the loaded brush has a sensuousness that has developed into her personal language, but she still feels like a bystander to this internal world that seems to drive itself thru her unconscious mind.

“Money in the Eyes” exhibit by Alexander de Cadenet at FAB-Gallery in Santa Monica

"The Life Burger sculptures combine two opposing functions: they offer a sharp criticism of the society we live in and yet simultaneously they are luxury objects in their own right."

Exhibited for the first time, The Life Burger will open May 4th at FAB-Gallery. It will include the Veyron Berger, The Skull Burger, The Buddha Burger and the solid silver Trump Burger, which features President Trump riding a bison, (itself a sacred American Indian symbol) and is a multi-faceted reading of the Trump phenomenon and celebrity culture in America today.

A political filmmaker’s swan song chronicles a haunting close to an artist’s life

When film publicist Sasha Berman sends something over, we pay close attention to her indie films, which have artistic characteristics different from U.S. films — a certain rawness. They are culturally based, provative, and the subtitles give the film an even more intriguing perspective, as we found it so with her most recent premiere, AFTERIMAGE. Los Angeles Times film critic Robert Abele had this to say:

Andrzej Wajda’s “Afterimage” feels vividly connected to the Polish auteur’s beginnings, yet also acts as the kind of haunting close that sums up a life.

Art Today 06.16.17 On the Beach by Creaturo, Jr.

I read about art and culture, art magazines, I joined about 36 art groups on Facebook and then I started my own called Art Effects and now has over 21,000 friends there to share their artwork and critique. I’ve even been invited to international shows, but that involves a lot of packing the art and then packing and shipping it home if it doesn’t sell. But, it’s been a great experience having the group and meeting people all over the world. And, I do ‘gift of the day’ on my own page because it’s too much to try and upload it to all the groups.

Art Today 06.19.17: Erin Hanson’s Borrego in Bloom, the 2017 “Super Bloom” in So. Cal

The 2017 "super bloom" in southern California caused thousands of visitors to roam the desert and mountainsides, photographing the bright, abundant flowers. I explored the super bloom in Borrego Springs, and they were indeed the most beautiful I have ever seen in the desert! I was actually inspired to release a whole new collection of works of the super bloom, to be released later this summer.

“There’s a certain kind of classism in the art world.” Wray explains. “A lot of very contemporary art might not be so open to art that is narrative or illustrative. In the “Pink Manifesto” defining the philosophy of this show, the question about the controversy of different concepts of art is addressed clearly.

I wish everyone who isn’t battling immediate survival would slow down, kindly ingest the world that surrounds them, and think of ways they can help build community. To tread with greater care on the planet.

Another phenomenon the sticker has brought to light is the trendy and CONSPICUOUSLY CONSUMPTIVE nature of many members of society. For those who have been surrounded by the sticker, its familiarity and cultural resonance are comforting and owning a sticker provides a souvenir or keepsake, a memento.

Every now and then, something novel, fresh, and whimsical comes along – Something born out of the grass roots demands of the few, and the multitudes. Artists are poised… tools in hand, ready to capture this moment in history. We all know there is an explosion of new artwork and new art forms. The Pink pop-up Show articulates this awareness.

Can we retire a conflict of art ideals that's not particularly worth upholding after all these years? It would seem like an art Gallery might be that place to start to let go of old beefs. That's usually where we go with the stated intension to relax and enjoy a day or night out anyway, recharge the art batteries and be inspired.

I make almost all of my photographs close to home, with the exception of a few series. I shoot against my garage and throughout my house. I have a pink office where I surround myself with inspiration. But most of my creativity comes from inside my head, not in a room, pulled from a deep well of influences.

I'm interested in how technology alters our visual understanding of how images are constructed. This painting has a contemporary cut and paste feel, but also an organized chaotic arrangement reminiscent of history painting. It's my version of a beautiful world gone wrong.
