“Mushroom Butterflies”
Pen and ink painted in Photoshop. Creatures that subsist entirely on magic mushrooms. They even evolved to match their colors to hide them from predators during harvesting.
According to whimsical artist Chris Bonno, Brett Gilbert is a very smart joke writer as well, having toured the country as a headliner (and as an actor you may have seen him in the movie Ghost World or the TV shows Prime Time Glick or Angie Tribeca). Haven’t even begun to share the fact that he’s a Photoshop genius and loves composing pictures that are laugh out loud funny.
TribeLA Magazine: Where in your home do you work? If not in your home, where do you feel most
compelled to create?
Brett: I usually sit at my computer desk at home and listen to podcasts on my computer while I work, but I can go anywhere with my sketchbook and get lost in the zone.
TribeLA Magazine: What do you prefer to work with, physically and otherwise?
Brett: I use mechanical pencils, so I don’t have to sharpen a point constantly. Then black ink, BIC pen. Then paint in Photoshop. When I paint in oils, I use a spoon to give a thick relief.
