ART TODAY 09.01.17: TGIF! Happy hour Cocktails from the “Craft Cocktails series” by Joe Rocco plus the Fluffer and Nutter video
All time favorite piece: Lately, it’s for a children’s book that I’m developing about growing up Italian American in New York called “Badda Bing! Badda Boom!” It’s mostly a tribute to the Italian swagger that is my dad. And I love working on my comic strip “Fluffer and Nutter” every chance I get.
Sounds and the City 09.01.2017 “The Weekend” by Sizzy Rocket
The Weekend,” written in Sizzy’s San Fernando Valley bedroom, swells with audible pangs of nostalgia. While the track is wholly raw and personal, the verses incorporate a coffee table aspect; it’s as if you’re sitting across from Sizzy as she recounts her time with this girl. The track’s visions of snowy Manhattan roof tops and faded red solo cups evoke the cross-coastal memory of love on the weekend.

Best advice received: I’m rather fond of the expression “Under-Promise but Over-Deliver” (a former boss of mine said) when it comes to the work I do for any client. I like the idea of not making too ambitious a promise about the work I will do, but then going that extra mile so the client feels that I went far beyond their expectations.

I’m excited when I get an assignment from an art director to solve their problems visually with my style, talent and choices. It’s challenging, and an illustration could go South so easily if I make poor choices so the challenge is in coming up with a strong concept and executing it with skill, craft and as much panache as I can afford.

I’m interested in how technology alters our visual understanding of how images are constructed. This painting has a contemporary cut and paste feel, but also an organized chaotic arrangement reminiscent of history painting. It’s my version of a beautiful world gone wrong.

In 2016 and 2014, Adam designed billboards for LAXART’s LA Public Domain Project, which were displayed on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood and La Cienega Blvd. in Culver City. He has also created site-specific works for the Museum of Broken Relationships in Los Angeles and the LA Art Fair.
