The art chosen to represent the introduction of TribeLA Magazine is entitled "Journey" by Frank Creaturo, Jr. because that is exactly what we’re on; a journey to find and tell the stories behind the art of Los Angeles and the emerging artists behind that art. A journey to bring our varied cultures together as one vibrant, thriving community. And, a journey to inspire people from all over to make their dreams come true.
Chris Bonno Review: “Sexy Coco” plus signed by Conan
Today, Chris Bonno is an award winning Los Angeles artist and comedian who received his Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas at Austin with honors. He started out as an illustrator with work shown in publications such as Austin Chronicle, National Lampoon, The WGA magazine, The L. A. Weekly with regular exhibits in galleries in Texas and California.
Day 3: Research shows that *Nature Art helps the healing process and artist Erin Hanson enhances this with beauty and design
“I just want people to be happy when they see my paintings” says artist Erin Hanson. In her studio, golden frames surround large panels of dizzying flower fields, jagged red cliffs, rivers trickling over rocky beds, and dense mountain forests. Erin’s art draws inspiration from the great outdoors. Whether she is visiting a new city for a show or touring a national park, she is constantly in search of scenes to paint.
Many of her works are inspired by her experiences rock-climbing and backpacking—she still takes week-long trips once or twice a year for the sheer enjoyment as well as to find more material for her paintings.
Erin has developed a personal style, called “open impressionism” making oil paint her primary medium because she likes the texture and its resemblance to the great Vincent van Gogh.
Day 6: If you haven’t been in the “Rain Room” at LACMA yet, you have until January 22, 2017
Good-bye Rain Room. “Rain Room is a remarkable work of art, whose creative courage and extraordinary concept have captivated audiences around the world,” said RH Chairman and CEO, Gary Friedman. Random International’s Rain Room is part of LACMA’s ongoing Art + Technology initiative, a series of contemporary programs that support artists’ experiments with emerging technology.
Day 7: TribeLA Magazine introduces Art on Walls
One of the goals of TribeLA Magazine is to bring more ART into our lives, our homes, and our workplaces. Research has proven that art improves creativity, productivity, and even helps the healing process. Knowing what type of art to use depends on your intentions for that space. We will journey into ART to learn more about this magical portal that has survived through thousands of years.
Day 9: Got Art?
Rather, you are emerging or established and you've GOT ART, we are interested in representing some of your art pieces in TribeLA Magazine. In addition to the magazine (print and online) you receive a lot of love on our website, our blog, and our new Art-on-Walls community-based project. We offer publicity to help you gain international recognition in addition to art exhibits, art-in-the-workplace, product placement, and sales. We also offer you an artist portfolio plus an online art gallery.
Day 10: The TribeLA Magazine Roundtable for artists kicks off in March
The Roundtable is our way of bridging our communities by coming together informally to discuss common issues that face all of us as Angelenos. Together, the voices of the Arts and Cultures community will bring to light the conversations that are needed to explore, understand, and appreciate the diversity that make up the huge tribe of people in Los Angeles.
Day 21: Exclusive Interview with “Tribes” bestselling author Seth Godin about L.A. for TribeLA Magazine’s online launch – Part one
Publisher's note: Seth Godin inspired the project TribeLA Magazine. His books have played an important role in my career as a radio executive and as an entrepreneur. Day 21 of TribeLA Magazine's online launch brings you this exclusive interview with the godfather of modern day creative-thought-leadership.
When Seth wrote Tribes (We Need You to Lead Us) in 2008, he was at the tip of the iceberg with something very grand. Since that introduction, the market has changed and Tribes have sprung up all over the world that some call weird... but what is weird to some is normal for others, depending on where you live. We call it Cultures and Los Angeles has many diverse Cultures. How do we connect with each other... Tribe to Tribe... culture to culture? Let's start with telling our stories through Art.
CHRIS BONNO: ARTIST OF WHIMSY
Playing with shapes and colors, Bonno chuckles when he explains that he loves the “f...k it factor.” Basically, that means going mad in his own world and giving himself permission to be loose. That freeing spirit is found in all of Bonno’s work. “I don’t leave a painting until I believe in it” he says, “until it impresses me.”
When I asked Bonno what advice he would give for aspiring artists, without flinching he stated, “Get out of your own way!” He feels that everyone has their own, private and personal relationship with art and it shouldn’t be marred by the critical voices in our head.
Art, Culture, & Conversations: Just a few reasons to visit The Broad this Spring
